There’s a new franchise coming and it stems from a beautiful partnership between Turtle Rock Studios and Perfect World publishers. Described as a first-person shooter in a new dark fantasy universe, the FPS which is still unnamed, will feature intense online co-op action.

Turtle Rock Studios are well-known for their work on games like Counter-Strike: Source, Left 4 Dead, and Evolve. In October, Turtle Rock Studios stopped work on Evolve but noted the great experience they had talking with the players. As recently as November this year, Turtle Rock posted an unfinished but playable L4D map called “Dam it” on L4D forums. So, while many players were saddened to hear about Evolve, Turtle Rock was not sitting quietly behind the scenes.

Perfect World is what seem like a perfect partner for Turtle Rock Studios, who also favor the F2P model and want fans opinions from the get-go. Perfect World has published games for over a decade and is responsible for Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Gigantic. Now Perfect World is excited to work with Turtle Rock Studios and support their new game. Yoon IM, from Perfect World Entertainment, says:

This one is going to be huge,”

Phil Robb, Co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios also said:

We’re focusing on what we do best – heart-pounding moment-to-moment online co-op FPS action. And …, we will always make sure that our players come first by listening to them and growing the game based on how they play and interact”

What do Turtle Rock Studios have in store for us?

Turtle Rock Studio’s new free-to-play game will be in a completely new universe and is not a sequel or successor to Left 4 Dead or Evolve. President and GM of Turtle Rock Studios, Steve Goldstein confirmed the game won’t be “a ‘zombie game’ or anything post-apocalyptic”. However, Goldstein did confirm there is a “strong dark fantasy element to it”. Gameplay will still include hoards of enemies to shoot and fast-paced action.

Goldstein went on to explain the benefits to players as well as developers in the free-to-play game model. Transparency with players allows developers to react to play styles and other elements of gameplay they didn’t expect before release. With this new co-op FPS, Turtle Rock Studios will be able to respond to users feedback quicker than usual.

Left 4 Dead

Turtle Rock Studios are full steam ahead with their new shooter at the moment.  We will wait a little longer for an official release but can hope for a 2018 release. One thing is for sure, gamers are ready to go back to those intense FPS roots that began with Left 4 Dead and this could be the game for it.
