Assassin’s Creed TV Series on the way and will feature on Netflix

Latest in Assassin’s Creed news is that after branching off into film with the Assassin’s Creed movie last year, a TV series is in the works.

Head of Content for Assassin’s Creed, Aymar Azaizia answered fans questions in an AMA on Reddit this week. Notably, Azaizia responded to questions about an Assassin’s Creed TV series. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned the company was in talks with Netflix about a series back in November 2016. Now, it’s confirmed that series is likely a new Assassin’s Creed TV show, Azaizia said:

It’s like the movie guys, we will take our time, to get sure we deliver something we can be proud of, but if you wander if it’s on our plan… YES”

Ubisoft’s plans to expand into film, tv and mobile games are with aim of benefiting video game production. Not only does it benefit Ubisoft by widening their audience but it also gives them creative input on productions. Prince of Persia rights was obtained by Disney in a situation out of Ubisoft’s control but Ubisoft had full control over the Assassin’s Creed movie. CEO Yves Guillemot said

We see that the video game industry is moving in that direction — where you have better graphics, better-animated characters, better AI…Movies and TV series allow us to amortize the cost of developing those characters and those worlds on more than one media.”

Ubisoft Motion Pictures is now in full swing as a movie studio and is expanding many of its video game titles into movies. The Assassin’s Creed movie was the first for the studio and now has five other feature films in the works. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell will feature Tom Hardy and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon is also being made. Tom Clancy’s The Division will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal. The final two movies are Rabbids and Watch Dogs with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Back in 2009, Ubisoft released a TV mini-series called Assassin’s Creed Lineage which aired on Spike. More information on the Lineage series is on the tv series wiki and there’s no need to download because the series is now on YouTube.

Assassin’s Creed Empire and movie answers from the Reddit AMA

Aymar Azaizia spoke in the Reddit AMA of how great it was to tell more of the AC story through cross-media. For instance, Assassin’s Creed is now found not only in video games but movies, tv shows, comics, books, and art. As we mentioned in our Assassin’s Creed Empire article, the Assassin’s Creed movie did ok though Rotten Tomatoes might not reflect that.

When asked about Assassin’s Creed Empire, Azaizia only responded with ‘lol’. He also confirmed the Empire leak screenshot of a tomb was ‘not AC’ but that doesn’t confirm it’s not Osiris. Osiris is rumored recycled into Assassin’s Creed Empire and that would explain some features of the tomb screenshot.

Azaizia also addressed some questions surrounding the Apple of Eden and whether or not Ojeda is a sage. Alan Rikkin implies the Apple of Eden in the Assassin’s Creed movie is the only one which is incorrect. Azaizia admitted it was just a small mistake and spoke about not pushing too much lore into one movie. Fortunately, Ubisoft’s use of cross-media allows otherwise untold stories from the franchise to come to life without convoluting games. Most players still seem happy enough to wait for a new Assassin’s Creed game as long as it’s good. In the meantime, there’s plenty of lore in other media forms for people to get their fill of assassins.

This weekend (from the 24th March) Valve is having a huge Ubisoft publisher sale. Sales include Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Unity, Syndicate, and Assassin’s Creed 2 & 3. Tom Clancy’s The Division, Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs 2 are also on sale plus much more.
